Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether Presto Store listings are showing up on Bookfinder (or other search engines).

I'm very pleased with the look and support so far with Presto Store.  Now I just need a sale. Huh

Greetings, I have been on Presto for about three weeks and sold one item and had one inquiry. It shows a lot of "hits", but I'll be if I can find my items with a search on google or yahoo. Have tested multiple items in a search and my items never show up. Who knowsHuh?

Hi Bibleman,  I just wanted to let you know that about a week to a week and a half ago I did all sorts of testing and searching on google with some of your listings and some of stacks listings.  So I may have tallied up a lot of hits between these two sites.  I think it's all for the good because I believe the more hits you get, the better your site is in the eyes of google. ( I was checking out the presto store visibility and viability for my needs).

Your listing was coming up on the very first page of results when I did a title specific search using Google Shop.  I was really surprised to see this.  However stacks listings weren't coming up until the third page of results.  I'm certain this relates to what titles I chose while doing my little tests.  I never found any prestostore listings coming up on Addall.com, or bookfinder.com.  Also, neither came up as Google books or Yahoo results for some reason.

Thanks for sharing your sites and some of the sales results to date!   Smiley

Greetings. Thank you for that bit of information. I am not sure how all the Google, Yahoo, etc. search works, but I know when I do a search through Google or Yahoo search engines I am coming up pretty empty as far as my Presto Store. The thing that drives me crazy is my store items shows many more hits then most sites I have had, yet no sales. I have even become suspect about where the "hits" are coming from(most items are showing multiple hits like 10-25 each).

I certainly would like to know the answers. I had a store with Chrislands.com(builds bookstores) for two years and it was't very profitable, but maybe it was my faultHuh? because I know of others that have done fine there. One of the problems may be that I do not have hundreds of items to list like so many because I deal only in NEW Bibles and books.

I have had third party software for "Newsletters" but no one ever signs up. How do you get people to sign up? I do not know? I have one now on Presto and not one out of the hundreds of visitors have signed up. I can not send out emails for specials, sales, etc., if I have no email addresses? Anyone have any solid info??

Well, enough of my ranting. Smiley
God Bless all,
Bibleman

Marketing almost never works when it is largely passive. Just having the option to sign up when someone buys an item from you is exactly that. At the very least some interesting enticement is needed for that ode to work. E.g. offer a 20% off coupon on the next order when customers sigh up for your newsletter. Also make the newsletter something that your target audience actually looks forward to reading (and encourage their family, church members and friends to sign up for), not just a listing of some stuff.

When I help small businesses with establishing a presence online and as a brand in general, I mostly give as a rough guideline that it takes at least 8 hours a week of work coming up with material, campaigns, collateral and the like. Some folks are able to get away with less, but that is relatively rare. Much higher investments, especially when getting started, are far from rare. Wink

Another guideline for whether having our own web site is useful is stated in terms relevant to your situation: explain why a customer would go to your site to buy a new bible instead of going to Amazon, a national Christian online store, their church or other competing venues. If you can confidently explain hat to a handful strangers, you are probably well underway to know what tenets to structure a brand and marketing campaign around. If you can't, it probably does not really make sense to try and establish your own web site.

Bibleman, my guess is that you are doing a generic Google search for your items. The key is to search Google SHOPPING - that's where your items are being fed to.

I can tell you that it took months for my site to show up on Yahoo. You can be pro-active and submit your site to a number of search engines, and I did that immediately after my site launched. Yahoo still took forever.

To show up on Bookfinder or Addall, you have to be accepted by that site to have your items show up. You also have to be BIG - several hundred thousand items is a good start. However, with PrestoStore's PrestoMart feature, which displays all PrestoStore's users items in one place, if there are enough of us, that might be our "in" to get our items listed. I e-mailed my contact at PrestoStore about this maybe a month ago and he had forwarded it on to the appropriate staff; I'll check back and see if any progress has been made in this area.

Poverty - I am now going to go search my items in Google Shopping! I wonder if it's because I'm not offering Google checkout. I suspect those that do get better placement in search. It might also have to do with which listings were most recently updated. I just spot checked a few in Yahoo - one of my older listings came up #3 in shopping and #6 in general search. A listing I put up a couple days ago has yet to appear. And a couple older ones didn't appear at all. This is why I don't use Yahoo for a search engine anymore - and I used to use them exclusively.
