ABESBOOKS Vs Alibris

I was just wondering which place most seller thought to be better. I know years ago, ABEs was not all that good. But I know they've went through some changes and was wondering where they are now (as far as sales, etc.)

Alibris...Absolutely...Definitely!!!!!
I barely break even on Abe and will probably close them out for good (already did that once and thought I would give them another chance).

I agree, definitely go with Alibris.
Abebooks is way too streaky. You might have a decent month but then it could tank for two months or more.

I third that, Alibris. I dumped Abe, they barely carried their weight.

I don't sell on ABE, but the only reason I would sign up there was if I finally got to work and listed my antiquarian/pre-ISBN books. If your inventory primarily has ISBNs, I agree with everyone else - Alibris is a better fit. The perception of ABE for a lot of buyers and sellers is that it's more of a collector's venue.

Our ABE tends to run about 5%-6% while Alibris ranges from 6%-9%. Really not a huge difference.... Alibris used to be LOTS better when we sold under B&N through them.

I really like Abe... too bad they're so darn expensive. Here are my April percetages so far this month (out of the six venues I sell on):
Abe 9.5%
Alibris 24%
Amazon 59%
I agree with Stacks... Abe is so much better for scarce, collectible, and those books that have been way out of print for decades. I also do a lot of international sales with Abe. I think Alibris is better for mainstream titles than Abe is, but I'm definitely making money by listing on Abe.

You've also got to account for whether you sell on Barnes & Noble, Half, Borders, Books-A-Million, etc through Alibris. If you cancelled Alibris, you would lose all of them unless you list separately there.

Agree, ditto and second that emotion!
Alibris is a must, as Melissa said don't forget those wonderful feeders from Alibris to multiple other venues: exposure is a good thing!
When I signed up for ABE some time ago, I told myself I would give that fee three months, and I would see if I averaged any profit for the three... haven't left yet. It has been slower lately, but it's still holding it's own. Access to the bookseller forums is worth at least half that as a continuing education fee. Agreed on the uncommon/common though.. but if you decide to make the leap just tell yourself it's a trial.. you're never contracted to any venue!

My current experience with ABE is not good. I started with them about 3 months ago and haven't had enough sales to cover the costs, let alone make a profit. They are still having significant delays in posting (40-80 hours).
Not good.

Our's varies sometimes one, sometimes 'ther. They both do enough to make them worthwhile but sometimes just barley. Those two and our own site generally play tag with our own site improving more over time.
